Let me tell you the story of a person who strived to be a star. He did not have much talent like others and finally decided to enter a reality show. The show was the all time favorite show in India – Roadies. If you are from India you will know that Roadies do not require excessive talent but only the desire to do difficult task the smartest way. He thought of giving it a try.
The biggest obstacle was to get through the audition. So he came up with an idea of faking his identity. He said that his mother is dead, and he works in a small hotel cleaning plates just to gain sympathy from the judges and enter the show.
I am talking about none other than Nagesh Chinnadore (Suraj of Roadies 8). But unfortunately his fantasy was short-lived. When judges came to know about the truth, he was humiliated and considered as the black sheep of Indian television and kicked out of the show.
What I am trying to say through this example is if you don’t have it, you don’t need to fake it to get in. Reality shows are tough! Go through the list of the top 10 best reality shows in India ever made.
10.Comedy Circus – Sony TV
Comedy Circus was started in 2007 and ever since has seen many seasons. The show started with a big blast becoming an instant hit at that time. But the show lost it is quality in the later seasons. The recent ones are mostly like watching the same old jokes without any new innovation in writing or the performance.
The show showcased many excellent Indian as well as Pakistani comedians. Actors such as Krishna, Paresh and comedian such as Krushna and Kapil are what they are today because of Comedy Circus.
9. Sa Re Ga Ma Pa – Zee TV
Sa Re Ga Ma Pa started as a singing competition but today the format is completely changed and the winner is declared by public voting.
It is on of the oldest shows in India that was incepted in 2005. Till date it has aired three seasons for seniors and four seasons of juniors known as Sa Re Ga Ma Lil Champs.
It is the first singing competition show on TV but could not gain much TRP in the beginning. But whatever might it be, singers like Raja Hasan and Vaishali Mhade could get into mainstream Bollywood movies only because of this reality show.
8. Sach Ka Saamna – Life Ok
This reality show inspired from the famous American TV show Moment of Truth was hosted by Rajeev Khandelwal. It could gather good reviews from the general public, critics, and the media as a whole.
The questions asked in the show are all personal where the contestant only needs to speak the truth. The truth or the lies was detected by a polygraph or generally referred to as a lie detector machine. According to research the polygraph is not always correct. But the contestants are beforehand made to agree on that condition.
But unfortunately, the show has been in controversies for the type of questions that are asked and the repercussions on the “contestants life and the society”. In the first season telly stars and some known faces was seen in the show. The second season was on the other hand opened for public participation on the theme of removing corruption in the country.
7. India’s Got Talent – Colors
This show is adapted from British Got Talent. It was adapted in more than 35 countries. The Indian version has seen three seasons from 2009 till 2011.
The concept of the show is unique as it is not concentrated only on one aspect. The show has seen some brilliant solo dancers, group dancers, singers, stuntmen, and even painters and sand artist till date.
The diversity of the show can be easily noted by its winners. The first season had a dance group named “The Prince Group”, the second one had a choir group “Shillong Chamber Choir “, and the third went again to a dance group “Suresh and Vernon Group”.
6. Dance India Dance – Zee TV
Dance India Dance will remain the most famous dance reality show of all times in India. Till date the show has completed three seasons. The judges are the most talented choreographers in the industry. They thoroughly observe and filter out the best from the rest. The selected ones are trained by one of the three judges Terence, Geeta, or Remo.
The absolute dance dhamaka has Mithun da but the voting process is left out for the public to decide. The show has successfully completed a version for children and one for doubles apart from the most rated single ones.
5. Indian Idol – Sony TV
Indian Idol is the first reality show for solo singers in India. It was in fact Indian idol that infused the trend of foreign adapted versions of shows on the Indian television.
Indian Idol is still considered the best platform for youngsters to showcase their singing talent. The judging panel is some of the top class musicians on Bollywood making the show more interesting.
So far the most famous winner remains Abhijeet Sawant. Don’t you agree?
4. Jhalak Dikhla Jaa – Sony TV
Jhalak Dikhla Jaa is a celebrity dance reality show. The format goes this way, each celebrity is paired with a choreographer and the winner is decided according to the public votes and the judge’s scores.
The show has successfully completed six seasons with the latest one finished airing one month back. Drasti Dhami and Salman was the winner of the last season and was judged by the dhak dhak girl, Madhuri Dixit, Remo D’Souza .
3. MTV Roadies – MTV
MTV Roadies is the longest running reality show of the Indian Television.
You will never get bored of this show. Right from the audition to the main show, it is like a rollercoaster ride. The trio Raghu, Rajeev, and Rannvijay are the highlight of the show.
There are no fixed standards as to the selection of the contestant. They are picked on the basis of their level of dare in them.
2. Bigg Boss – Colors
Bigg Boss is the most watched and the most controversial show on Indian television. The format of the show is simple. A bunch of celebrities are made to live in a closed in a house with the comfort of TV or other things and also away from family and friends. But they are watched round the clock with cameras fixed all around the house.
Some of the contestants like Vindu, Sameer Soni, and Raageshwari have revived their sinking careers by participating in Bigg Boss. Thus it is a very good platform for the contestants as well.
1. Kaun Banega Crorepati – Sony TV
Kaun Banega Crorepati is the best reality show of India that is still able to hog the limelight. The reason behind its raising TRP is that it gives common people a chance to show their knowledge and earn money in the process.
When common people earn money rather than big shot stars, it always feels kinda nice.
