India has always been good for graduation. But when it comes to a rank in the world, we did have a little bit of doubt. However, PG courses, especially Management are top-notch and the IIMs lead the way. There are at present 13 IIM’s in the country of which IIM Ahmedabad has just strengthened the faith we had in our IIMs.
According to Financial Times Masters in Management (MiM), 2013 that ranks the 70 programmes for students with little or no previous work experience, our very own IIM Ahmedabad (Post Graduate Programme in Management course) holds the number 18th position and right behind IIM Calcutta (Post Graduate Programme course) at number 19. However, European business schools still to dominate but this ninth edition too.
IIM-Ahmedabad has always been a regular participant in the survey but for Calcutta, it is the first time. It is news worth boasting as it reflects the potential we possess. A first timer B-School cracking the top 20 ranking list of a prestigious global survey can not be regular news. It is also estimated that the average of rank over 3 years for IIM Ahmedabad is an esteemed 12.
If we compare the previous 3-years of MIM Ranking, it is seen that IIM-A has moved up to 4 places. Of the 70 business schools ranked, both of our IIMs hold the pride of place in providing employment: these two are among the only six B-schools out of 70 whose most recent batch students were 100% employed within 3 months of passing out.
IIM-C has also proudly secured the #1 position in the Careers rank. This list is a combination of business institutes measuring the progress according to the seniority and the size of the company they are employed in.
University of St Gallen in Switzerland has topped three times in a row. It is first for value for money and aims achieved, second for the effectiveness of its career service and third for the salary. Its cohort is one of the most internationally diverse, and the school is in the top 10 for student mobility and international exposure. The esteemed London School of Economics and Political Science is at number 20.
“IIM Calcutta’s vast intellectual capital, impeccable placement history and the success of its alumni base made this international recognition possible. Our engagement with CEMS (Centre of Excellence for Management Studies), the Global Alliance in Management Education, paved the way for our participation in the FT rankings survey. Our association with CEMS has given a tremendous impetus to our journey for Internationalization. With our accreditation with AACSB expected shortly, and various other initiatives in the areas of internationalization, entrepreneurship and sustainability taking shape, we are looking forward to performing even better in the coming years,” IIM-C acknowledged how global tie-ups helped it achieve this ranking in a press release.
The methodology adopted is: alumni responses inform six criteria, from “salary today” to “placement success” inclusive, plus “international mobility”, that together account for 55 per cent of the ranking’s weight.
We hope to find some more Indian schools in this list next year.
