Business Standard much recently reports that three of India’s largest media firms Times Group, Zee Group and STAR India has been successfully able to make it to the billion-dollar club.
Times Group
The Times Group is considered as one of the largest mass media company in India. The company is a family-owned business with Sahu Jain controlling majority stake in the Times Group. Today it has over 11,000 employees with an annual revenue exceeding $1.5 billion.
Zee Group
The Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd is the second-largest Indian media company based in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It is actually a subsidiary of the Essel Group. Subhash Chandra is the managing director and Founder of this group with Puneet Goenka as its chief executive officer. Zee entertains over 700+ million viewers across 169 countries in the word today.
Star India
The STAR India Entertainment Company is owned by 21st Century Fox and has it’s headquarter situated in Mumbai. It has its regional offices in Delhi and Chennai. It has a total of 33 channels airing in eight different languages to more than 400 million people and in more than 100 countries across the globe.
These three companies has been making a billion dollar annual revenue right at the time where dollar has been beating Indian currency. This reveal has become one of the most successful insight business standards amongst India’s top media firms.
The study is based on the amount of information available even when the companies are not open to their activities.
It was also calculated on the basis of the company’s revenue. If we look at the top five companies and the bottom five in India today, we find a huge gap between the haves when it comes to the matter of the revenue earned.
Again, the times group is the sole company on the list that has been bagging huge profit through publishing. The rest are from the broadcasting or TV distribution. The reason behind their success is considered to be consolidation and digitization of the media today.
