It contributes a large amount of revenues, both domestic and through exports, to the GDP. If the industry sustains its growth rate, then it is likely to become among the top 10 global markets in value term by 2020.
In reality, actual Indian pharmaceutical companies occupy minimum percentage of the market; instead the industry is mainly dominated by foreign industries which their subsidiaries in India.
Following is a list of top 10 best pharmaceutical companies in India which own almost a third of the total market turnover.

Lupin Ltd.
The company is a subsidiary of U.S. based Lupin Pharmaceuticals Inc. Lupin Ltd. is strongly research based with its headquarters in Mumbai and a state of art lab in Pune. Considered as 2nd largest manufacturer in India, its business spreads over the entire pharmaceutical value chain and exports to over 70 countries.

With its headquarters in Ahmedabad, this company is one of the largest privately owned pharmaceutical companies in India. It was established in 1952 and has three active units in India. The company distributes over 90 countries around the world.
GlaxoSmithkline Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
The company is one of the oldest pharmaceuticals in India established in 1924. It owns 4.2% of the total market share. Its portfolio includes prescription medicines and vaccines. Its parent company a France based company. It is listed both in NSE and BSE.

The company was established in 1935 and is headquartered in Mumbai. The company aims at making India self reliant in medicines. The company has 34 operational units and distributes to over 170 countries.
Aurobindo Pharma Ltd.
