A recent report in the Wall Street Journal says that HTC is working on its own smartphone operating system to spread its potentialities in China as well. Sources says that the project is supervised by HTC’s chairperson Cher Wang and is on the process of development after getting the green signal from the Chinese government.
No confirmed technical detail is brought to light like the platform on which the new OS will be built or which integrated Chinese-specific social networking apps will be used in the report.
Well, it is not the first time that we are hearing about the building operating systems as Mozilla, Samsung etc have tried to build one in the past. The goal is common for every company and it is to break Google’s stranglehold on the industry. HTC has taken a bold move by deciding to go its own way instead of choosing an existing alternative such as Firefox OS.
It is seen that the bond between Taiwanese HTC and China is not very strong even if they share the same language and geographical proximity. Some analyst is in the opinion that this move will change the company’s finances in the future. Mergering with Chinese companies such as Huawei and Lenovo would have been a better to enter the Chinese market. But when it has come to developing a completely new Chinese-specific operating system, all we want to do is to sit back and see how it goes.
What is out as news is that HTC’s new OS is already being tested. We may see the first launch before the year ends.
