The news is still very hot! Narendra Modi appointed at BJP’s PM! According to an article in the Times Magazine,” Modi is a firm, no-nonsense leader whocan steer India out of a ‘mire of chronic corruption and inefficiency.” If you are from Gujarat, I doubt you will need any kind of convincing to vote for Modi. This post is actually for those who have not made up their mind yet. It is to break the mentality of those intellects who thinks Gujarat was always developed and Modi hasn’t done a thing for its growth.
1. Development
As Vidya Balan epitomized the three reasons for the Box-office success of a film as Entertainment, Entertainment and Entertainment. Similarly Modi has also proved that the sole guarantor of electoral success is Development, Development and only Development. This will perhaps be for the first time in the history of India that an election would be fought on the plank of development. If you think of defeating Modi on the issue of development, it would be almost like England defeating India on the spinner friendly pitches at home! Near to impossible. And if media has been discrediting him for the Gujarat riot in 2002, it should also credit him for the development he has brought to the state in collaboration with the same people. I guess its fair enough!
2. Infrastructure
Forget about the flashy jargons and data for a while and get to the ground reality. Gujarat has not had a single instance of enforced power cut, a common phenomenon in other states, since the past 10 years.
I really hope our Rahul baba do not come up with this response,” Gujarat mein bijli kisne pahunchayi….Humne’. The Jyotigran Yojna, Gujarat’s flagship project has even gotten recognition from the Central Government. It was seen that several parts of Saurashtra were chronically affected by water scarcity and private tankers seemed to be the only option. But since the last few years this situation has drastically changed with water reaching many remote areas as well. Even the quality of road is great in Gujarat. Even the World Bank was appreciative of the roads in Gujarat.
3. Non-Corrupt Regime
This is a time of the Indian era where every minister in the Central Government has some case of corruption against him. Now read this carefully, Modi even after completing 4000 days in office has not a single allegation on a personal level against him. Fascinating, right?
The closest his opponents could get to him was that he gave away land cheaply to industries. However, even these allegations were squashed by the M B Shah commission. Check out this example to understand the funny nature of these allegations.
Consider a rural area devoid of any industries and is dependent on only farming. The land rate there is Rs 300/ sq mt. If the government sells 1,00,000 sq mt. to a leading industrial house for Rs 150/sq mt as a concessions for new industries for a total of Rs 1,50,00,000. And if the same industry brings many new investors who get the land at new rates which have inflated considerably and farmers turn into millionaires overnight by selling their land. New opportunities of employment will be generated. The government will earn huge amount in taxes. The entire area will be developed and new schools, colleges, hospitals and parks will come up. Today the market rate for land in the region is 1500/ sq mt. From this perspective the government cannot be called corrupt, rather it will be called as investment!
4. Law & Order
No matter how hard media tries to project an atmosphere of fear in Gujarat, the fact will always be that Gujarat is the safest state in India today. Can you come up with a better explanation on beautiful girls dressed in gorgeous dresses moving fearlessly on the roads at midnight during Navratri? If it would have been in any other state, we would have to calculate the crimes in a unit called RPM-Rapes per Minute. Do not always be a pessimist! Go spend some time in Congress ruled states to understand the importance of Gujarat.
5. Modi’s Vision
Modi’s vision sets him apart from all major players in the political circuit. Kankaria Lake used to be a redundant entity until he refurbished it and made it a landmark in Ahmedabad. You will see that most PM candidates today will struggle to differentiate between renewable and non-renewable sources of energy. Whereas Modi put his money on Solar Energy, setting up Asia’s largest solar power plant in Gujarat. Again activists round the world are calling for the use of public transport; the BRTS is already perfectly operating, encouraging people to take up Public transport. The beautiful Sabarmati riverfront is seen to have been gaining popularity today.
6. Communal Harmony
Since 2002, the tables have completely turned for Gujarat. Not a single incidence of communal violence has been recorded in the past 10 years – a remarkable achievement from the chaotic times of 2002. There is also this growing sense of trust in the judicial process as a former minister was not spared for her involvement in the riots. It will be okay to say that communal harmony is under control under Modi. A recent RTI revealed that inspite of the Congress claims of being the Minority Messiah, it is Gujarat who gave them proper representation in the police force.
7. Tourism
For people who is of the opinion that Modi’s been bragging about what has always existed, they most certainly misses a crucial point. Yes! Gujarat always had the Kutch deserts, picturesque Saputara and a lot of other places of historical significance. But the thing which was missing was tourists! Due to Modi’s endeavor people from around the world recognizes Gujarat’s beauty today. Roping in Amitabh Bachchan as the Brand Ambassador at the expense of Sibbal’s favorite number along with the successful ad campaign there has been a tremendous increase in the tourism of Gujarat.
8. Gujarat Asmita
Modi could instilled a feeling of Gujarati Pride among the 6 crore Gujaratis of the state. Gujarat which was once a laid back prosperous state is now competing and outclassing as the best. Gujarat is no longer a ‘Gokulyu Gaam’ (idyllic village). Well the response and respect you get today from any Indian when u tell him/her that you are from Gujarat is superb.
9. Last choice
If all the above reasons fail to convince you, just imagine Modhwadia as the CM of Gujarat. Horrifying right? Good, now support Modi and get the country every Indian dreams of!
