Here comes a little bad news for Chromecast users. In the most recent update of Chromecast by Google, it was seen that it disabled playback from external video sources thus invading all third party apps like AllCast and Fling that uses the code for local-only streaming. According to Android Central, Google does not seem to be promising any local media support on the Chromecast, as it wants to focus only on the cloud as of now.
Koushik Dutta from Allcast reviews that this is not just the first time when Google has made this kind of move. However, atleast for now Chromecast will only support a limited number of video streaming services like Netflix, YouTube, and Google Play Movies. Though you will be allowed to play local contents, it will have to pass through a process of mirroring a Chrome browser tab using a plugin.
All these might make a bit of sense on the business level, but it will still remain bad news as it is disappointing to hear Google pushing away third party developers and hackers. It is early to anticipate Google reconsidering its decision, but what is the harm in keeping your fingers crossed?
