Google has been using this flatter logo in printed promotional materials for quite a long now. I have cross checked this with a mailer which I have received from Google and it too has a flatter logo. You may also find this new version in any official Google Apps icons and logos section.
But, The Verge claims to have learnt from a credible source that it is not the next Google logo.
Upon examining the latest Chrome Beta APK it may be assumed that Google is planning to release a revamped version of its logo. It was first spotted by folks at Ars Technica. The logo did not seem to have much of a difference. It is a rather flatter and modern version of the Google’s existing logo. This alleged new Google logo can also be spotted on the company servers at these URLs (1, 2).
As seen above, the 3D look and depth is missing and the colors have been tweaked a bit to give the logo a modern look. However, there has been no word from Google as to when is they planning on making it official.
If you remember well, the last tweaked version of the Google logo was introduced back in 2010 which was not big change as compared to this one if made official.
All we can do is to wait for Google to announce the new look. Meanwhile check out the previous logos below.
